2007 Winter Project Delivered; On Time On Budget
Just in time to wave winter good-bye, here's his winter project finally completed. Like all such large jobs this one began to pall; all the details, the frustrations, the set-backs and the continual focus become tedious, tiresome, burdensome; you want to shed them all, complete the job and get on with other things. There are always other things to entice one's attention beyond the current occupation; that's life, after all, one of the many intrigues of living a busy life, succumbing to manifold interests in enhancing one's life.
But for now, this one particular accomplishment has seen completion. And for me it signifies yet another creative triumph for my extremely restless and busily-talented spouse. Needless to say, while the focus was on accomplishing the task at hand, that very task in and of itself had an additional purpose; to take us, and him in particular, through the course of another long winter. These yearly self-imposed and always rewarding winter-months' projects have always worked well for him.
Me also, since I'm not exactly an unaffected beneficiary of his creative talent, determination, patience and vision. So here we are, blessed with yet another landscape. This home we share has many landscapes he has envisioned, translated to paper, and finally seen through to the fruition of a task undertaken and completed. Stained glass windows are only one of the many projects he has set for himself; others are as various as building oak stairs, completing basement rooms; refurbishing kitchen and baths; his interests and talents know no bounds.
For the stained glass landscapes in the house, though, most can be classified as Canadian in their composition, reflecting scenes well known to us through our various forays over the years of our lives into the wooded and well-laked arrases of our geography. This current landscape is a diversion from the familiar, illustrating a landscape we've never ourselves experienced directly. Now we will, in a sense, live within an exotic landscape more reflective of one found in the tropics than our northern clime.
Another method of travel; this one in our minds, through our eyes' aesthetic.
