2SLGBTQ1 Cris de Coeur

"[The Fox News] coverage aimed to provoke hatred and violence against 2SLGBTQ1 communities, particularly those who are Two Spirit, trans, nonbinary and non-conforming [2STNBGN]."
[Carlson made false claims about those communities, including] painting them as violent and dangerous."
"[Non-Canadian broadcasters must be held to the same standards as Canadian broadcasters, which can be fined or lose their licence for broadcasting abusive content that] when taken in context, tends to or is likely to expose an individual or a group or class of individuals to hatred or contempt on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age or mental or physical disability."
"[Our group experienced] firsthand the hate that is generated from a single segment aired on Fox News in Canada. We cannot begin to imagine the broader impacts and potential rise in hate that might result from allowing more content like this to air in Canada."

Fox News host Tucker Carlson is being accused of stoking resentment against trans individuals, suggesting they "are given preferential treatment in employment and other opportunities."

Egale Canada, the cardinal rights group for the 2STNBGN, the 2SLGBTQ2+ and the LGBTQ communities in Canada is up in arms, indignant and dismayed at the portrayals of "false and horrifying claims" tarnishing and endangering its much put-upon communities. A recent Fox News host Tucker Carlson is accused by Egale Canada of besmirching their communities beyond decency in false claims of unsupportable malicious intent.

In the process of filing a formal application with the CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television & Telecommunications Commission) in an open letter addressed to its communications and marketing director following an appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight that aired in late March. The segment was cited in the letter of stoking resentment against 2STNBGN people through misinformation.

A list of international channels is maintained by the CRTC which cable satellite and IPTV providers are given clearance to include in their packages. Russia Today and RT France were removed from the list a year previously. The CRTC decision took into account that the content of the Russian channels "appears to constitute abusive comment since it tends or is likely to expose the Ukrainian people to hatred or contempt on the basis of their race, national or ethnic origin."

The emphasis of Egale's letter states the CRTC must investigate whether the Television Broadcasting Regulations are being violated by Fox News, asking the regulator to hold public consultations on removing the channel from the authorized channels list. The regulating body decides, when a formal application is filed, whether to accept it. If accepted, the CRTC posts the file on its website along with a deadline for the public and interested parties to submit comments.

"[The segment  aimed to provoke resentment and violence against 2STNGGN people through false claims and[malicious misinformation."
"During the segment, Carson made the inflammatory and false claim that trans people are 'targeting' Christians. To position trans people in existential opposition to Christianity is an incitement of violence against trans people that is plain to any viewer."
"Given the rising levels of anti-trans hate around the world and the potential for segments like the one recently aired on Fox News, there needs to be a serious Canadian conversation about the broadcasting of Fox News in Canada."
Egale Canada executive director Helen Kennedy
