Stoking Divisions Trudeau Style

"[The attack on a Hindu temple in Canada over the weekend was an] appalling [attempt at intimidation]."
"Such acts of violence will never weaken India's resolve."
"We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law."
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

"The attack by Khalistanis on the Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton shows how deep and brazen Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada."
Liberal MP Chandra Arya

"[India's a lot more cooperative with the U.S.,] and I think that's telling of Canada and maybe something we need to take more seriously."
"I'm not sure dealing with the diplomatic tensions that came with this [Trudeau's pandering to Sikh-Canadian separatists] are potentially worth it. I think that's telling of Canada and maybe something we need to take more seriously."
"I think leaving it up to the Mounties [RCMP] and the intelligence agencies, that certainly could have been done."
Rupinder Lidar, PhD student, McGill University

Last Sunday while Indian consular officials were at a Hindu temple in Brampton, violence suddenly erupted, ending with three people arrested and charged by Peel Regional Police. Demonstrators carrying banners in support of a separate Sikh portion of India named Khalistan clashed with Hindu-Canadians, some of whom held India's national flag aloft. The Khalistani movement is held by India to be illegal and a threat to its sovereignty. Khalistanis are thought of as terrorists in India, some of whom have been convicted of serious crimes in their zeal for separatism.

Videos in circulation on social media show fist fights, with opposing groups striking one another with poles, on the grounds around the Hindu temple. Police are investigating "several acts of unlawfulness" in connection with the protests.According to India's Ministry of External Affairs, the temple had been attacked by "extremists and separatists", asking the government of Canada to protect all places of worship. "Anti-India elements" orchestrated "violent disruption" outside a consular camp in Brampton on November 3, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa posted on X.

Since last fall when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stood in the House of Commons and accused the Indian government of being involved in the killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Alberta, both countries have been in a deep diplomatic freeze with one another. More latterly, each country ejected the other's diplomats. Additionally, a top Canadian official claimed that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah authorized a campaign of violence, intimidation and intelligence gathering against Sikh separatists in Canada.

A large crowd gathered at the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple in Brampton on Monday.

"I can't see how it's helped [Justin Trudeau informing a federal enquiry into foreign interference that Indian agents are playing a role in widespread violence in Canada, including killings, all of which India denies]."
"It's a really grave and serious accusation. There has to be an investigation. It has to be completed ... But I think the fact that senior political leaders have gotten involved makes it harder to find a resolution, certainly publicly."
"I imagine there are back-channel discussions going on at the highest level to the extent that that's possible"
"But publicly, there's a standoff and an impasse between the two governments. [Diplomatic relations between Canada and India] are in the deep freeze."
"India has consistently refuted these allegations and tensions have escalated. [When leaders including Trudeau and Modi wade in, it] ups the ante. [That's] going to incentivize both governments to really stick to their positions, at least publicly."
Sanjay Ruparelia, associate professor of political science, Toronto Metropolitan University
On Monday night hundreds of protesters marched in close proximity to the temple until police dispersed them. Weapons had been observed in the possession of the protesters. Police announced the arrest of three people related to Sunday's violence. In British Columbia three protesters were arrested at a Hindu temple in Surrey.
"This kind of fanned the flames for a lot of people who have existing anti-immigrant sentiments or they feel that immigration in Canada has gone too far."
"That we've imported issues from the other world here."
"It's kind of given them a leg to stand on with those arguments."

Canada Decimated By A Trudeau Bomb

"Not everyone associated with the Liberals, fortunately, is willing to debase themselves in front of the world like this. MP Marco Mendicino posted on X: 'I do not support [the UN's] call for Israel to agree to what is, effectively, an unconditional ceasefire'."
"Montreal MP Anthony Housefather similarly registered his displeasure with the vote: 'Hamas, a terrorist organization is entirely responsible for starting a war', he posted."
"A temporary ceasefire had been in place last month, but Hamas began firing rockets into Israel while it was still in effect, and refused to continue releasing hostages."
Editorial, National Post
https://smartcdn.gprod.postmedia.digital/nationalpost/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Israel-vote-UN.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=1128&h=846&type=webp&sig=GC4UuCiZHuNJyztd_5DnWg
In an earlier  October 26 UN general assembly vote on a resolution calling for a "humanitarian truce" making no mention of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, Canada's ambassador to the UN stated Canada would not support the text since Hamas's role was ignored. His amendment to the resolution condemned Hamas, "it names what has to be named. If the proposed amendment is not adopted, the Assembly will not have recognized one of the world's worst terrorist attacks and we will all have to live with that failure", Bob Rae said at that time.

Canada's amendment failed to impress sufficiently, leaving Canada to abstain. Fast forward to Tuesday's UN general assembly, yet another non-binding UN motion calling for an 'immediate humanitarian ceasefire'. Yet again no mention of the Hamas atrocities on October 7, much less that it continues to send rockets into Israel, while its operatives face off with IDF troops in a Gaza ground war, even as its executive leaders issue orders from the security of Turkey and Qatar. The new resolution called for an 'immediate humanitarian ceasefire', once more failing to condemn Hamas. In the event, an Austrian amendment citing Hamas's role in instigating the conflict failed to garner support to pass. But that failed to impress Canada and it voted for the resolution, along with 152 other general assembly members.

This is the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at work, finding it useful to abandon Canada's traditional role in support of a fellow democracy, one which shares the values and much of the culture that is traditionally Canada's. That WAS Canada's traditionally. Under this Liberal government much has gone by the wayside under its post-national, LGBTQ-2-devoted prime minister who has chosen to deep-six further development of Canada's immense riches in natural resources associated with the fossil fuel industry in favour of eschewing energy sources in gas and oil in favour of renewables uncertainties.

A government that has chosen not to delve too deeply in the intrusive threats of the Chinese Communist Party involving itself in stealth interference in Canada's elections, deleterious to Canada's sovereignty. Chinese 'police stations' established in a number of Canadian cities for the purpose of intimidating and threatening Chinese-Canadians who criticize the government in Beijing are allowed free rein, even while Canada is sanctimoniously involved in supporting China's environmental credentials through Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault acting as executive vice-chairman of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, an advisory board of the People's Republic of China. Where Canada's official stance is denying development of its own energy resources, it partners with the country whose massive use of coal for energy is responsible for a major proportion of the world's production of carbon dioxide.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is committed to 'peace and security' for Israelis and Palestinians as the government issued a statement along with New Zealand and Australia on Tuesday calling for efforts toward a 'sustainable ceasefire' in the Israel-Hamas war  CBCNews

It's becoming increasingly difficult to recognize this new Canada. One that abandons its traditional role as a respecter and champion of human rights. A Canada that once stated openly and frequently that it would never abandon its support of the Jewish liberal democracy that is Israel, alone in a sea of autocratic kingdoms, tyrannies and theistic supporters of terrorism. Finally, in this government's abandonment of its allyship with Israel, it faces criticism from within its own caucus where multiple Liberal MPs despaired of Canada's vote at the United Nations, highlighting with clarity the Trudeau government's craven surrender to the domestic votes to be counted on from a large and growing Muslim population.
"If there is a will, there is a way."
"If we can find people who can understand Hamas's thinking and transmit those to Israelis via an internationally respected third party like Canada, I think we can obtain peace."
"Palestinians are also people who want to live. No one wants their sons or daughters to die in a bombardment."
Liberal MP Faycal El-Khoury
This suggestion must rank as the most cynical of sanctimonious yet, since it could not possibly escape anyone's notice that Israel, having had to cope with Palestinian violence and intransigence over multiple attempts at bargaining for peace, is very well versed in the thinking of Palestinian leaders. The Israeli leadership has for generations attempted to appease their Palestinian counterparts with concessions, all to no avail. It was never a two-state 'solution' that the world clamours for, that remained the goal of the Palestinians, but a one-state solution solved by the disappearance of Israel.

The Hamas charter states unequivocally that its purpose for existence is the destruction of Israel. It exists to kill, and has frequently jubilantly stated it loves death and martyrdom, and has groomed Palestinian Gazans to think similarly, prepared to surrender their lives for the murder of Jews. This Liberal MP knows this as well as anyone else with half a brain. But in the Liberal government of Justin Trudeau all is pretense and a show of pious virtue-signalling. This government's expanded immigration intake has gifted Canada with a stealth presence of illiberal, racist infiltration that Trudeau caters to for their vote-appeal.

And in the process, Justin Trudeau has betrayed the Canada that once was, transforming it steadily into a Canada no one can any longer recognizes. Among those dismayed at the transformation are Jews who have lived in this young country for over 260 years, deep in its history, steeped in their own history of Canadian antisemitism before and during the Holocaust when all doors were closed to Jewish refugees, to finally attain a place of equality and inclusion in the following decades, only to see their equality gains shrivel in the past decade, when immigrant/refugee numbers from the Middle East and North Africa imported Jew-hate that is finally fully in bloom threatening the security of Jews in Canada, just as Jews in Israel are facing existential threats, not least from the very institution formed to protect universal human rights.
"Almost three in four Palestinians believe the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas on Israel was correct, and the ensuing Gaza war has lifted support for the Islamist group both there and in the West Bank, a survey from a respected Palestinian polling institute found."
"The Palestinian Center for Policy Survey and Research (PCPSR) findings were published as international alarm grows over the spiralling Palestinian civilian toll in the Israeli counter-offensive against Hamas, now in its third month."
"Seventy-two percent of respondents said they believed the Hamas decision to launch the cross-border rampage in southern Israel was "correct" given its outcome so far, while 22% said it was "incorrect". The remainder were undecided or gave no answer."
"Hamas, which is sworn to Israel's destruction, has ruled Gaza since splitting with the Palestinian Authority (PA) in 2007. The PA exercises limited governance in the West Bank."
Fifty-two percent of Gazans and 85% of West Bank respondents - or 72% of Palestinian respondents overall - voiced satisfaction with the role of Hamas in the war. Only 11% of Palestinian voiced satisfaction with PA President Mahmoud Abbas.
Reuters
After Canada voted in favour of a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, Canada's Ambassador to the UN Bob Rae said 'we have to try' for a two-state solution. 'The situation on the ground is changing. It's getting worse. We have to respond to that in a humanitarian way,' Rae told Power & Politics.  CBCNews

Canada's Faulty WWII Memory

"The Canadian government should directly condemn SS Galicia, not honour it. It is  unbelievable this happened in the first place."
"Members of this division were involved in mass murder of Jews, Poles and Ukrainians during [the Second World War], and many of them did this before they joined this division."
"They're considered to be Nazi collaborators, and they are not regarded even as heroes in Ukraine by the Ukrainian government."
"They massacred entire villages of Polish residents in this region… including women and children because they were accused of being associated with Soviet partisans. This was just mass murder without any real justification."
"In addition to this, the SS Galicia Division was involved in other cases of violence. They took part in the suppression of the anti-Nazi uprising in Slovakia, and they also took part in the brutal and violent suppression of the anti-Nazi partisan movement in Yugoslavia."
Ivan Katchanovski, Ukrainian Canadian professor, University of Ottawa

"Those units were involved in real acts of atrocities against Jews and other victims of the Nazi regime."
"The Nazi units, like the one he was involved with, did not give the victims of the Holocaust, the millions of them, Jews and others, an opportunity to live their lives, have children and grandchildren and live to be 98 years old."
"[It's] absolutely critical that we reflect back on Canada's absolutely awful, awful record of holding Nazis accountable for their crimes."
"We have failed at that -- we were a safe haven for so many that came in."
Wiesenthal Center president, CEO Michael Levitt

"[The military division contributed to the deaths of six million Poles during the war, half of whom were Jewish."
"This is a person who participated in an organization that was targeting Poles, was committing mass murders of Poles, not only the military personnel but also civilians."
"For me, such people should not be present in public life and probably should be prosecuted."
Witold Dzielski, Poland's ambassador to Canada

The obtusely stunning performance -- during the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Canada, preparing to address Parliament -- to reveal the invited presence of a Ukrainian WWII 'hero',
98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka by Parliamentary Speaker of the House of Commons, Anthony Rota as a surprise went sideways fairly quickly. "He is a Ukrainian hero, a Canadian hero, and we thank him for all his service" said Speaker Rota in introducing the nonagenarian invitee. The entire chamber burst out in an ovation of appreciation.

Only to soon enough discover him to be a Ukrainian who had voluntarily, during World War II, joined a Nazi SS division, fighting with the Waffen-SS Galicia Division known as well as the SS 14th Waffen Division, referred to as well as the First Ukrainian Division under the command of Nazi SS officers. Friday was the day that Yaroslav Hunka was feted by Parliament, and on Sunday, Speaker Rota apologized for the man's presence in Parliament, before a Jewish Ukrainian president no less, whose family had perished in the Holocaust.

Jewish groups in Canada and the world over were shocked, dismayed and angered, demanding at the very least an apology from the Canadian government, the rousing standing ovation honouring a Ukrainian Nazi, beyond belief. Poland too has demanded an apology. And has gone even further issuing a formal request for the man's extradition to Poland to stand trial for war crimes as a former officer of the Waffen-SS Galicia Division.

Hunka
Calls for the resignation of House of commons Speaker Anthony Rota were swift in coming. And finally, on Tuesday, he did resign, under pressure from even several members of his own governing party. What stretches credulity is that everyone invited to appear in person at a parliamentary session is given a background security check, and in this instance it would have been no different. It was well known in North Bay and among Ukrainians that the man was a Nazi collaborator. That he was a resident of the Speaker's riding, fails to excuse Mr. Rota of ignorance of his past.

A website honouring the division that includes photographs of the man in his Nazi uniform offers ample details. The photographs that the professor posted on social media were viewed over three million times. The shameful episode on Parliament Hill has been reported in American, British, Polish and Australian legacy media. The Waffen-SS Galicia Division is well noted for its role in murdering civilians and its involvement during the war in bloody massacres.

At that point of the war after Hitler's Germany had invaded Russia, despite its pact with Germany as part of the Axis group, Soviet Russia allied itself with Canada, the United States, Britain and other Allied nations against Nazi Germany. The Ukrainian SS division dates from 1943 when Germany looked for allies to support its forces at a time when the Allies began gaining traction in the war and Germany became concerned the war was its to lose.

Recruitment of Ukraines to the SS made use of propaganda, one particularly appealing poster featuring an SS soldier in conflict with a caricature with the Star of David emblazoned on its arm. In the end, 80,000 Ukrainians volunteered for the SS Division with 12,000 making the final selection. Many more Ukrainians fought against the Nazis, with the Soviet military. Following war's end, the International Military Tribunal included the units of the Waffen SS like the Galicia division in its identifying them as criminal organizations.

In Canada, there remain some nationalist Ukrainian-Canadians that view the 14th Waffen Division as heroes for fighting Soviet forces. Oakville, Ontario and Edmonton, Alberta have sites where monuments honouring the Ukrainian SS troops were erected to express that pride. And while the monuments fail to state the Divisions as part of the Nazi SS, this is what they clearly are.  B'nai Brith Canada and the Canadian Polish Congress jointly called for their removal.

Finally, not a word from Chrystia Freeland, finance minister, and deputy prime minister of Canada. Whose own Ukrainian-Canadian background surely entitles her to make some pithy comments. Then again, perhaps not, given that her grandfather was in essence, little different from a Ukrainian member of a Waffen SS. He was stationed in German-occupied Poland, editor of a newspaper that parroted Nazi propaganda de-humanizing Jews, a collaborator himself.

Canada, Once Again on the World Stage

"Amid the ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Canada over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, sources have revealed that the Khalistani leader was found to be at flight risk in the United States and was on USA’s no-fly list in 2019."
"Meanwhile, in contradiction to Trudeau’s recent support to the Khalistani activist, it has been learned that Nijjar was also included in Canada's no-fly list in 2017–18."
YouTube

"Murdered Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, was allegedly involved in crime since the 1980s and had connections with local goons from a young age, a detailed dossier prepared by Indian authorities, and accessed by NDTV, revealed. It further says Nijjar, who fled to Canada on a forged passport in 1996 and maintained a low profile as a truck driver there, travelled to Pakistan for arms and explosives training. He also allegedly ordered several killings and attacks in Punjab while taking refuge on Canadian soil."
"Later, he allegedly came in touch with Pakistan based KTF Chief, Jagtar Singh Tara. He also visited Pakistan in the garb of a Baisakhi jatha member in April 2012 and underwent an arms and explosive training there for a fortnight, the dossier said."
NDTV legacy news outlet

"In light of the current environment where tensions have heightened, we are taking action to ensure the safety of our diplomats."
"As a result, and out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to temporarily adjust staff presence in India."
Jean-Pierre Godbout, spokesperson, Global Affairs Canada

"There is no question that India is a country of growing importance. And a country that we need to continue to work with."
"We're not looking to provoke or cause problems. But we are unequivocal around the importance of the rule of law and unequivocal about the importance of protecting Canadians and standing up for our values."
"We call upon the government of India to work with us to take seriously these allegations and to allow justice to follow its course."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

"[It appears Canada's allegations] are primarily politically driven."
"No specific information has been shared by Canada on this case. We are willing to look at any specific information; we have conveyed this to the Canadians."
Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusation on Monday that the Indian government had a role in orchestrating an assassination of a Canadian Sikh embroiled in Khalistani agitation against India did not go down well in India. As a prime minister with a personal background in administrative malfeasance, lapse of ethical conduct, theatrical and embarrassing behaviour on the world stage, while at home pushing a woke agenda on mostly unwilling Canadians whom he refers to as 'racist' and 'homophobic' for their protests, and having alienated one end of the country from the other by his environmental politics, it is hard for many to take his accusations seriously.

In June of this year a Surrey, B.C. resident with citizenship in Canada, Hardeep Singh Nijjar -- described variously as a "Sikh community leader" and a "peaceful advocate for Sikh independence" as president of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey -- was gunned down in the parking lot of the gurdwara by two masked thugs who fled the scene and whose identities remain unknown. In India, on the other hand, the man had a notorious reputation as a terrorist: a "terrorist fugitive from India who emigrated to Canada".

On his disastrously embarrassing 2018 trip to India, Justin Trudeau had been handed a list of "Khalistani operatives in Canada" by Amarinder Singh, at the time chief minister of Punjab province. Nijjar's name was on that list. Canada has a reputation of harbouring Sikh separatists. Khalistanis, as they are called, are known to be extremists and have been involved in violent incidents in the past, not the least of which was their bombing of Air India Flight 182, which killed 329 people -- most of whom were Canadian-Indian Hindus -- in mid-flight over Ireland in 1985.

Little wonder that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is convinced that Canada has done nothing to prevent the threat of violence against its diplomats assigned to Canada on the evidence, blatant and ignored. There are more incidents of agitation for a Punjab Khalistani homeland out of Canadian Sikh separatists than there is among Punjab majority-Sikh residents where it is now considered a non-issue. The provocations and threats emanate from among Canadian Sikh separatists who stage loud protests in Vancouver and Toronto with placards openly threatening Indian diplomats.

One parade float in Brampton Ontario glorified the 1984 assassination of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi by her trusted Sikh bodyguards. And then there was the issue of an unofficial Khalistani secessionist referendum held in the Toronto area a year ago, a referendum that Hardeep Singh Nijjar was deeply involved with. Billboards in Surrey in the aftermath of Nijjar's killing were emblazoned with "assassination wanted", listing names and photographs of Indian diplomats.

Little wonder the government of India is convinced that Canada is wholly indifferent to the safety and security of its large expatriate Indian community, both Hindu and Sikh, living in Canada, almost two million in combined numbers, much less the large number of Indian students who come to Canada for their post-secondary education in a fellow democracy.

Justin Trudeau's Woke Canada Setting the Agenda

The transgender pride, pride and Canada 150 pride flags fly on Parliament Hill in Ottawa
"Far-right political actors are trying to outdo themselves with the types of cruelty and isolation they can inflict on these already vulnerable people."
"Right now, trans kids in New Brunswick are being told they don't have the right to be their true selves, that they need to ask permission."
"Well, trans kids need to feel safe, not targeted by politicians."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

"[Trudeau was] playing to the audience that he was with [speaking at the Rainbow Railroad Freedom Party]."
To take a hard line approach on either side without really focusing on the balance will only continue to create a divide, and it's unfortunate the prime minister wouldn't look at the big picture and understand that parents play a role in children's upbringing."
New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs

"We listened to and consulted with hundreds of New Brunswickers and made amendments based on those exact conversations."
"We hold teachers in a position of public trust. Parents are our chief partners when it comes to supporting students and it is not appropriate to be using a different name than the parents."
"If a teacher does not have the permission of a student's parents to use the chosen pronoun or name in a classroom, they won't be able to use that name or pronoun."
"Asking teachers to hide this from parents puts them in an extremely challenging position which I don't feel is fair to parents."
"Parents are in the best position to support their child through the majority of life changes, like a change in gender identity."
"If it is not possible to obtain this consent to talk to the parent then the student will be encouraged to work with the appropriate professionals that we have in our school system, such as school social workers, school psychologists [and] guidance counsellors."
"We believe that is fundamentally wrong to not share this information with the parents if we are using [a student's preferred name] on a daily basis. If we are using it on a daily basis, it puts teachers in a really challenging position."
"There's a lot of bullying that occurs in our washrooms, any place where students are out of the sight of our professionals. Then there's things that happen that we'd prefer not to happen."
New Brunswick Minister of Education Bill Hogan

This is precisely typical Justin Trudeau; delighting in driving a wedge of controversy/separation between Canadians, whether it's damning Canada's natural resources in energy through the extraction of fossil fuels, in the process alienating the Western provinces and Newfoundland by imposing roadblocks to investment and the funding of critical infrastructure to achieve his government's goal of reducing the country's carbon footprint which represents about 1 percent of the world's total, or by forcing his progressive 'woke' agenda on every sphere of Canadian life.

He has pledged to "stand against" changes to gender-identity policy in New Brunswick schools, casting the government of Blaine Higgs as "far-right political actors" intent on inflicting "cruelty and isolation" on vulnerable children. As it happens, education and all the details of how education is delivered from curricula to school policy is a provincial responsibility for which this kind of federal intervention is totally unnecessary and blatantly divisive.

The New Brunswick Policy 713 represents provincial guidelines on gender identity in schools, meant to establish minimum standards in an effort to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ students and federal interference has made it a divisive an issue between the federal and provincial governments. The policy redraft has a requirement for parental consent should transgender or nonbinary students under age 16 wish to change to a preferred pronoun or name.

The changes proposed by the redrafting of Policy 713 now requires parental consent for issues that seriously impact on their children's lives, and this is a reasonable alteration of the original, that parents, primary caretakers of their children's welfare, be kept aware of their children's decision-making at school. Premier Higgs states that the prime minister's attack on his government and its decision-making will not deter him from formally placing the matter into provincial law viewing the changes as promoting a balance that includes parents.

Typically, Trudeau grandstands whenever he has the opportunity, and if none present themselves, he makes his own opportunities, and his remarks made at the Rainbow Railroad Freedom Party in Toronto -- an organization designed to give aid to LGBTQI+ individuals to help them escape the persecution they face in their countries of origin -- were received with predictably great acclaim.

Canadian Armed Forces Culture Change

The Minister’s Advisory Panel was created in December 2020 with a clear mandate to seek out the policies, processes and practices that enable systemic racism and discrimination in the Department of National Defence (DND) and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and provide advice on how to eliminate them from our institution. Their work has focused on Anti-Indigenous and Anti-Black Racism, LGBTQ2+ Prejudice, Gender Bias, White Supremacy, Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and discrimination against people with disabilities.
News Release: Government of Canada -- April 25, 2022 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces
"[Allyship is defined as an] active, consistent and arduous practice of unlearning and re-evaluating, in which a person in a position of privilege and power seeks to operate in solidarity with a marginal group."
"[Colour-blindness, or refusing to see race, according to the lexicon, can] foster the systematic denial of racial subordination."
"[White is a] social colour [that comes with] unearned power, benefits, advantages."
"White fragility [is ] a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable [for white people] , triggering a range of defensive moves ... such as anger, fear and guilt, and behaviours such as argumentation, silence and leaving the stress-inducing situation."

Under the Minister of National Defence, Anita Anand, in the Liberal-progressive government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau -- he of women's liberation and LGBTQ-2, post-national credentials -- a radical "culture change" is shaking up the Department of National Defence. In December the department hosted a talk by a social justice studies professor claiming Canada is "completely infected" by white supremacy. In January a grant was awarded to a political science professor and fellow in Black excellency to study white supremacy in the Canadian military.

Under the astute guardianship of Minister Anand the Canadian service members are to be taught all about diversity, equity and inclusion. National Defence's director of anti-racism implementation is the proud producer of the new culture toolkit. The current interim director's interests includes promotion of an "e-binder" containing profiles of Black public servants as a guide in hiring managers, and to find people to promote (diversity targets mandated in the federal government).

Positive discrimination that imposes constraints on one group held to be privileged and 'entitled', is the essence of anti-racism while awarding and rewarding another group to level out the playing field, enabling the formerly unprivileged and unentitled to occupy positions now denied to the former. The post of the anti-racism director is to support "organizational cultural evolution by elevating the defence team members' awareness and understanding of racial equity issues through strategic communication tactics, resources, training and tools".

The lexicon guide of the Department's anti-racism toolkit lists 122 terms relating to gender, race and DEI -- all burdened with a heavy social justice perspective. "Equality" is defined as treatment of people that "brings about an equality of results". Believing in equality but not equity is racist. Decolonization "requires non-Indignous individuals, governments, institutions and organizations to assist Indigenous peoples to reclaim all that was taken from them".

A series of instructions is presented for military servicepeople to preach to one another about DEI and anti-racism in the toolkit's "Guide to courageous conversations on racism and discrimination". Such as the practice of discrimination against groups considered "privileged" in the opinion of critical race theorists. "Anti-racism" tips and tools in the toolkit includes a section interpreting the Employment Equity Act that requires every federal department and any company wishing to bid on big federal contracts to honour diversity targets (quotas) for the workplace. This leads inevitably to de-prioritizing white or male applicants to the military for hiring. Race- and gender-specific job postings in other federal departments undergo similar treatment. Valid criticism of the law is dismissed in the toolkit as a "myth".

An anti-racism learning hub has been launched as well by the Defence Department, linked to a number of resources that stress ideology, and direct defence staff to DEI training materials. Which include the Harvard Implicit Association Test, a test of a type that supposedly measures subconscious bias. What is now a set-piece in the Department of Defence is commonplace in the federal public service. The Canada School of Public Service provides a "standardized curriculum" for public servants. Ethics? O Canada My Home And Native Land!

"Over the last five years and on several occasions, I have observed senior officials being unaware of their obligations and mistakenly making assumptions."
"Offers to provide training and educational sessions on a variety of topics have been offered to all federal parties and to regulatees, yet we continue to see a succession of mistakes that are largely attributable to the inability to recognize the need to seek consultation [with the Ethics Commission]."
"As a parliamentary secretary since 2015 and having served for several years on both the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics and the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, Mr. Fergus [veteran MP and parliamentary secretary] should be well versed on the functioning of both regimes and the importance of consulting the [Ethics] Office."
"I am quite concerned that someone with the breadth of experience of Mr. Fergus would fail to recognize the possibility of a contravention."
"The Act has been there for 17 years, for God's sake, so maybe the time has come to do something different so that we don't keep repeating the same errors. After 17 years, maybe we should realize that something is not working."
"I don't think the crafters of the Act envisaged the situation where a prime minister would be found in breach himself. So it has created a very special situation. It's a funny situation to be in and it was not envisioned by the crafters, obviously."
Federal Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion, Ottawa
Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion, who has announced he will be leaving his post, says he has seen little evidence during his tenure that the federal government takes ethics seriously.
"If the [Liberal] party disagrees with Trudeau, finds that he shouldn't be a serial violator, then they would remove him."
"If Trudeau is not going to hold himself accountable, and the party is not going to hold him accountable, well he kind of has to not hold them accountable in return."
"It's kind of a quid pro quo with his own party members. Trudeau's caucus failed the [ethics standard] system."
Ian Stedman, ethics law expert, associate professor, York University school of public policy and administration
After studying a concerning "succession of mistakes" from senior government officials who have a propensity to break ethics laws, the federal Commissioner of Ethics, Mario Dion, called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to order all his ministers and parliamentary secretaries to seek out additional ethics training. All of whom have been exposed in the past to such training. Before they even take their seats in Parliament, newly-elected Members of Parliament routinely receive a round of ethics training to ensure they are fit to sit in government as lawmakers.

Mr. Dion tabled a report finding that Liberal MP and parliamentary secretary to the prime minister, Greg Fergus broke ethics laws by contacting the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to influence the board to allow a small television company mandatory carriage in Quebec. Fergus is chair of the Parliamentary Black Caucus and sought to further the aspirations of a Black-owned company attempting to gain a significant windfall of revenue.

As MP Fergus well knows there is a clear prohibition under ethics laws for senior officials wishing to exert any form influence or pressure on a tribunal; that very issue is one repeated frequently in reports and public guidelines on the website of the Ethics Commission. The report the Ethics Commissioner released on this matter is the second in a three-month period where a Liberal MP was found by Mr. Dion in breach of ethics laws. International Trade Minister Mary Ng was reprimanded for her personal involvement in two contracts issued by her department to a company owned by her "close friend", a former Liberal staffer.

Mr. Dion's predecessor prior to 2018 when he took the office, published a report that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau broke conflict of interest laws by accepting two flights from the Aga Khan (who petitions government) and vacationing with his family on the Aga Khan's sumptuous private island. Since then, Mr. Dion completed two dozen additional investigations into Liberal ministers (including the prime minister in two more occasions), MPs and top public servants and government agency administrators subject to the Conflict of Interest Act.

No fewer than five senior Liberals were found in violation of ethics laws, including Trudeau and the-hen Liberal Finance Minister. Over the period of his mandate as commissioner Dion's office gave 140 presentations on ethics and conflict of interest obligations to thousands of attendees, one third of those lectures Mr. Dion presented himself. "Giving a contract to a friend, I don't think you require much training to understand this isn't appropriate", commented Mr. Dion. "Something has to be done" to show they "are taking this seriously".

The Conflict of Interest Act, points out Mr. Dion, states specifically that respecting that law represents a "condition of employment" for public office holders it applies to. In theory, anyone who breaches the act could lose their job if the individual at the top takes the Act seriously. "I don't think the crafters of the act envisaged the situation where a prime minister would be found in breach himself. So it has created a very special situation", added Mr. Dion.
"Twice already, Canada's conflict of interest and ethics commissioner, has found the prime minister violated ethics rules. The first occasion was in 2017, when former commissioner Mary Dawson ruled on Trudeau and his family accepting a vacation on the Aga Khan's private island in the Bahamas."
"The second occasion was just last year, when the current commissioner, Mario Dion, found that Trudeau had tried to influence then-justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould to overrule a decision not to grant a deferred prosecution agreement to SNC-Lavalin."
"Dion already had announced he would be looking into the decision to grant the WE Charity a sole-sourced contract to administer the Canada Student Service Grant when the charity revealed it and its affiliates had paid the prime minister's mother and brother about $300,000 for speaking engagements over the last four years."
"When photos were published in the midst of the last campaign showing that Trudeau had worn blackface on multiple occasions before entering politics, there was enormous potential for a career-ending blow to the prime minister."

Do.As.I.Say

"We talked about the U.S.-based flooding of the 911 phone lines in Ottawa, the presence of U.S. citizens in the blockades and the impact of foreign money to fund this illegal activity."
"[Biden] expressed concern not just for the impacts right now, but the indication that there is international support from the United States and from elsewhere around the world for these protests."
"[On some funding platforms, the] number of U.S. donations are approaching 50 percent."
"Our police services are monitoring carefully, and watching and co-ordinating with partner agencies around the world."
"We see mobilization of some of the more challenging political elements in Canada and in the United States around support for these blockades that are hurting citizens."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

"Canada has absolutely ZERO jurisdiction over how we manage our funds here at GiveSendGo."
"All funds for EVERY campaign on GiveSendGo flow directly to the recipients of those campaigns, not least of which is the Freedom Convoy campaign."

"There's messages from donors saying their location is in the U.K., Israel, U.S., and it has been promoted by some quite high-profile American content creators as well."
"[The Institute for Strategic Dialogue hasn't collected any evidence, but it's] something that I would never rule out [that some of the Convoy donations are emanating from Russia]."
Tim Squirrell, head, communications and editorial, Institute for Strategic Dialogue, U.K.

"Each hour that these blockades continue does more serious damage to our economy and society."
"Manufacturers that depend on just-in=time delivery have been forced to cancel shifts for thousands of workers, shipments of livestock and of fresh produce face serious delays or waste that threaten food security, and deliveries of products that are greatly needed by Canadian families are being cancelled."

The Canadian Truckers Convoy that has dubbed itself the Freedom Convoy has reverberated globally. From New Zealand to the United Kingdom, the United States to Israel and points between, capital cities like Paris are now facing the threat of blockades by their national truckers groups, initially expressing sympathy for the Canadian Truckers, and expanding that to express their own outrage over the coronavirus mandates that have been visited on themselves nationally.

In Canada, Federal authority has been muted in response to the capital of the country being under the physical thrall of thousands of protesters, many driving large semi-trailers, the rigs being used as a coercive measure and menace, threatening to remain as long as it takes for the central government to revoke its COVID mandates. That demand was later substantially increased by another demanding the Liberal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resign.

This is the same federal government that has failed to resolve an issue that has grown to national proportions causing both social and economic dislocation. Other truckers, attempting to deliver time-sensitive loads across the border between Canad and the United states have been held up for as long as a week at some of the critical border crossings. The Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, to Detroit, which sees a quarter of all trade pass through between the two countries has finally been cleared of protesters but not yet cleared for traffic.

The Canadian government has excoriated the provincial Ontario government and the municipality of its capital city for not having dealt expeditiously with the protests that have upended people's lives for close to three weeks with trucks idling 24 hours a day, diesel fumes polluting the atmosphere, air horns blasting continuously, and protesters openly defying mask mandates while harassing and intimidating local residents who wear masks. Grocers have shut down because of unruly behaviour, hospitals have been unable to operate as normally.

But the federal government and the prime minister sit by, critical of everyone else, themselves having in the first place caused the protesters to dig in their heels, refusing to disperse. Justin Trudeau spoke insultingly disparagingly of the truckers, characterizing them as misfits, racists, homophobes, thugs with whom he refused to meet. When Black Lives Matter demonstrated on Parliament Hill a year and a half ago, Trudeau was pleased to make an appearance and 'take a knee', though many of the BLM demonstrations turned violent.

This is the same Trudeau that when India attempted to introduce new farm legislation to upgrade and modernize their system of sales of agricultural products, and the farmers organized a protest rally just outside New Delhi to demand the legislation be repealed because of their belief it would harm their incomes, Justin Trudeau stated his support of the farmers -- mostly Sikh -- to play to Canada's large Sikh population. At that time he was pleased to urge Indian Prime Minister Modi to 'listen' to the protesters.

As for Canada's Truck Convoy, there are those in the U.S. cheering it on; Republicans and far-right figures, including former President Donald Trump, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Georgie Representative MarjorieTaylor Greene. They'll have their own Truckers Convoy to contend with, one planned to possibly interrupt the Super Bowl and Mr. Biden's State of the Union address on March 1st.

The original GoFundMe campaign to raise funds in support of the protest saw $10 million raised in the space of a week, but the GoFundMe organizers decided to freeze the funds. Whereupon the Convoy organizers turned to an alternative source, the U.S. GiveSendGo fundraising site which has almost now matched the original fundraising of $10 million, and which, unlike its predecessor has defied Canadian government wishes that the funds raised not be given to the Truck Convoy organizers.

According to Christian Leuprecht, a professor at Royal Military College and Queen's University, "the amount of money that's being raised, the pace at which it's being raised, raises serious questions about the sources of the money", that it's "not inconceivable" that some of the funding may have come from Russia.

What is undeniable, is that Canadian truckers have a legitimate grievance. There was no need to mandate vaccinations for the mere ten percent of the trucking industry that remains unvaccinated, depriving them of their livelihood and Canadians of ongoing food deliveries. A miserable failure of an incompetent federal government in its zeal to control the public to an extent not seen other than in wartime situations.
