The Precious Reality of Woke Socialism: DIE

"We acknowledge that we are all living off the taken ancestral lands of Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. We acknowledge the extraction of brilliance, energy and life for labor forced upon people of African descent for more than 400 years. We celebrate the resilience and strength that all Indigenous people and descendants of Africa have shown in this country and worldwide."                        "We carry our ancestors in us, and we are continually called to be better as we lead this work…. We envision a nation in which…all physicians are equipped with the consciousness, tools and resources to confront inequities and dismantle white supremacy, racism, and other forms of exclusion…."                                       American Medical Association
"[The AMA’s proposed strategic plan] is rooted not in science and the medical ethics of the Hippocratic Oath but in a host of Marxist ideologies that devalue the lives of our most vulnerable patients and seek to undermine the nuclear family which is the single most critical institution to child well-being."
Dr. Michelle Cretella, executive director, American College of Pediatricians

Gender equity in medicine ... AAMC

It's simply yet another manifestation of the mammoth sway in society of its latest zeitgeist, an 'awakening' of conscience so burdened with guilt that the sins of the fathers have been visited upon their sons, their daughters, their grandsons, their granddaughters, their great-grandsons and great-granddaughters burdening all of society with collective guilt and responsibility for what humanity has embarked upon since time immemorial; taking advantage of others to advance one's own well-being.

The social-cultural miasma of collective guilt handed down through the generations, finding all those who have moved forward in life at the ostensible and frequently real manipulation and oppression of others who themselves have learned to bask in their victimhood, found guilty as charged. If anyone is an art lover, in Canada the National Art Gallery housing priceless art collections to be admired and enjoyed, now is meant to be viewed through the lens of a JEDI&A lens (Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accountability). Do not, under any circumstances, view art henceforth for its own authentic qualities in the search for aesthetic beauty and originality.

According to the American Medical Association, doctors must now inform their patients with a preamble, elocuting in the instance of patients of Native American background, that they were historically "dispossessed by the government of their land and culture". As for people living in straitened economic circumstances presenting with illnesses, they too are to be addressed with the explicating admission that "people underpaid and forced into poverty as a result of banking policies, real estate developers gentrifying neighbourhoods, and corporations weakening the power of labour movements among others, have the highest level of coronary artery disease".

In the time-consuming process of earnestly convincing patients that the medical profession is on their side in indignant fury over the rough ride that life has given them thanks to the powerful selfishness of the entitled class and the colour-white tyrants, doctors might very well lose track of their obligation within the medical profession of addressing the patient's symptoms to find a medical diagnosis, in their brain-straining efforts at placing themselves at the service of diversity, inclusion and equity (DIE). In the process helping their patients to do just that.

D&I report
University campuses give full throttle to 'woke' culture. Academia has embraced its politics, encouraging students and staff alike to take up the cause of underdogs everywhere, castigate the self-perceived vision of innocence, replacing it with communal guilt and cast those entities named as guilty-as-imagined to be beyond the pale, to be exorcised from polite society. The formidable icons of Western heroism, the principals behind the most meaningful measures of civilization's advance are now to be viewed as reprehensible white saviors who sacrificed the lives and cultures and heritage of indigenous peoples for white gain.

Their crimes against society may be centuries old, but the current white-privileged are their spawn and as guilty of oppression and discrimination as their forbears, irrespective of their remedial actions and conscientious acts of present-day consciousness. The woke politicization of science, academia and government has soared in an evolutionary cultural volcanic eruption of caustic blame melting the rock-solid core of democratic civilization as we were fond of knowing it.

In Canada, research scientists working on cutting-edge technological advances will be turned down for government funding research grants should their completed funding applications under assessment reek of insufficient dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion considerations. Consideration of criteria such as qualifications and skills and work ethic and experience are now irrelevant when faced off against minority rights and entitlements to equality treatment in all spheres of influence; qualifications recognized as secondary skills, shields behind which exclusion appallingly skulks.

In Canada recently, a Lakehead University professor was granted $1.2 million for her research studying the efficacy of Indigenous healing in the prevention of cancer. She proposed that the medical, scientific community should focus on matters from a different perspective altogether: "Think of cancer as a symptom of colonialism". Upon which a governing party Member of Parliament -- who before re-assignment to the Indigenous Services ministry was the Minister of Health -- congratulated the Lakehead professor and wrote: "I look forward to hearing and learning from  your work and findings".

The Gender Gap

"Women often have atypical heart disease presentation and often present later in the disease spectrum. Medical treatments also have different effects on women and men."
"[This new study should] highlight the need for further research to understand these differences and to improve care and outcomes in women."
Dr. Louise Sun, anesthesiologist, researcher, University of Ottawa Heart Institute

"Unfortunately, we have seen almost no advance in the strategy used to treat the heart failure that affects women predominately."
Dr. Lisa Mielniczuk, co-principal study researcher, Ottawa Heart Institute

When women present with difficulties in their health condition exhibiting symptoms unfamiliar to medical specialists whose education and practise traditionally reinforces male-presented symptoms linked to heart disease, women frequently are labelled with respiratory problems rather than heart problems in seeking treatment. Women tend to be older when their symptoms appear and because they are older often have other chronic illnesses at diagnosis, thus rendering diagnosis even more fraught.

Women, to begin with, tend to suffer from a variant form of heart failure, different than what afflicts men, and so their symptoms become more difficult to diagnose. To complicate matters further, once they are diagnosed, and treatment proffered, that treatment tends to be less effective for women than it is for men. Though treatments for the type of heart failure common to men is making great strides, the same cannot be said for protocols involving female treatment.

All this to explain why it is that women are likelier than their male counterparts to be hospitalized and die as a result of heart failure. Two investigators at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute recently completed a study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal; the latest such study to recognize the existence of a gender gap in heart disease presentation, diagnosis and treatment failing the needs of women.

These simple facts appear to explain why it is that women die more often than men with misinterpreted symptoms of heart failure, a chronic progressive condition where the heart muscle is no loner capable of pumping sufficient blood to meet the needs of the body. Outcomes for women are worse despite the fact that survival rates have long been known to be troubling for women since women display different symptoms than do men, yet they receive immediate and appropriate treatment less often.

As a major cause of illness and death, heart failure accounts for 35 percent of female cardiovascular mortality. Hospitalization rates for men with heart failure has decreased, as death rates due to heart failure continue to decline. On the other hand, hospitalization rates for women increased between 2009 and 2014, the period studied by the researchers. In their research, data linked to over 90,000 patients diagnosed with heart failure in Ontario during that time frame was studied.

All of the patients were not hospitalized at the time of diagnosis, and the women identified in the study, representing 47 percent of the patients, tended to be older and frailer, with lower incomes and with multiple chronic illnesses besides their heart symptoms. In the one-year window after diagnosis, 16.8 percent of the women in the study died, while 14.9 percent of men did so. Hospitalization rates for women were higher among women than for men, with 98 women per 1,000 hospitalized in 2013 compared to 91 per 1,000 men.

The goal of the study itself was, according to the researchers, to raise awareness in general that heart failure is quite common within the general population -- as well as to emphasize the phenomenon of gender discrepancies, in the hope of motivating other researchers to engage themselves in similar research which may result in solving some of these gender-specific problems in health symptoms, diagnoses and treatment.

Heart disease and stroke is the number one killer of women around the world, accounting for more deaths every year than all cancers combined
Surprised? There’s more.
  • Heart disease and stroke are a leading cause of death among women in Canada, claiming 33,000 lives each year.
  • Women are 16 per cent more likely than men to die after a heart attack.
  • That number rises to 50 per cent if you just look at the first year following a heart attack.
  • In Canada, stroke kills 36 per cent more women than men.
  • Nine in 10 Canadian women have at least one significant risk factor for heart disease and stroke.
  • Many women are unaware of these risks and how to manage them.
  • Many women ignore their symptoms until it’s too late.
  • Women can reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke by as much as 80 per cent by managing risk factors, which include eating a healthy diet, being physically active, being smoke-free, limiting alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, and reducing stress.
Why does this heart health gender gap persist? And how can we do a better job of preventing, diagnosing and treating heart disease in women?

Which is the Oppressor now, the Heterosexual or the Homosexual?

Pronoun cards 2016-01

Pronoun cards 2016-02

In the ongoing saga of University of Toronto psychology Professor Jordan Peterson, he is being reviled and excoriated by the vast army of the politically correct for having exhibiting publicly the unacceptable temerity as an individual who refuses to succumb to the popular social demands that what the LGBTQ2 community calls 'straights' accept without question their language rights. Infusing them with the epithet of 'homophobic' for failing to bow to ever-increasing, more ludicrously gender-bending demands of recognition and obeisance to the agenda of harnessing righteous indignation that among the 99% of society's heterosexuals there are those who refuse to honour their precious tantrums.

Professor Peterson posted several videos wherein he made it clear that the preposterous demands that language be co-opted and coded to reflect the vast cornucopia of new and evolving gender identities requiring that the prevailing, traditional historical language of gender identity be scrapped in favour of adopting LGBTQ2's labyrinthine logic that distorting pronouns well beyond recognition will satisfy the wounded psyches of those who happen not to fall into the recognized and naturally occurring sex roles of male and female.

Tyler Anderson/National Post
Tyler Anderson/National Post    Quinn Valkyrie holds a sign at a protest against anti-political correctness professor Jordan Peterson at University of Toronto on Oct. 5.

The passions that Professor Peterson's perfectly sane explanation that language, though malleable, should never be the victim of a minuscule minority's field of complex identity issues aggressively pursued so that the general public has an obligation to learn a multitude of pronouns to satisfy the whimsical demands of that wounded one percent in society confused about their gender identities, has been swift and corrosive. His more 'understanding', compassionate and politically correct academic peers were quick to criticize his outspokenness. His university has looked askance at the controversy and his academic standing within it may be imperilled.

Governments themselves are literally bending over backwards, pretzelling themselves to bend language completely out of shape and understanding in a confusion of responses, all genuflecting in the direction of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community which has been enthusiastically  engaged in proving that tired old adage that it is the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. And so, amendments which recently passed in the Canadian House of Commons after having been given the green light of acceptability by the Canadian Human Rights Code and the Criminal Code add "gender identity" and "gender expression" as grounds for legal protection in Canada.

The University of Toronto set up a forum to argue the need for those amendments. On the dissenting side was Professor Peterson, and on the assent-demand side were two female professors, one of whom was Dr. Mary Bryson of the University of British Columbia, both experts on the issue of gender identity and gender expression. Perhaps both also qualify as experts on gender oppression as well, intimidating and threatening those whose social morals don't quite align with their own. It has been reported that a former student of a Women's Studies course in 1991 at UBC found herself in a state of fearful and disgusted apprehension taking Dr. Bryson's course.

"The students sat there in stunned, awkward silence. We had no idea what to say, what to do or where to look."
"We told them [the university] everything that was happening I assumed that Bryson wouldn't be permitted to teach at UBC any more."
"Imagine a male professor forcing female students to watch violent pornography. Imagine a male professor inviting a male guest speaker to drop his pants and expose himself to students. Imagine this prof telling students how to dress for his class and forcing them to publicly announce their personal grooming habits and their sexual orientation, and then proceed to shame students on that basis."
"It would be a national scandal."

"We take seriously any concerns raised by past or current students about their learning experiences at UBC."
"[However, the university requires] some time to look through our files as this involves a course taught 25 years ago."
Dr. Angela Redish, provost, acting academic vice-president, UBC
Professor Bryson, one of the two who debated against Professor Peterson on Bill C-165 and the Ontario Human Rights Code gender provisions, was not dismissed from UBC's teaching staff. What did occur in fact was that she became tenured, then was elevated to the post of director of the university's Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice, and more latterly was named senior associate dean of the education faculty. The young woman, now in her mid-40s who spoke of her ordeal in Professor Bryson's Women's Studies class graduated with her master's in religious studies from UBC and moved on and into her career, her experience with Dr. Bryson, a bad memory.

The course she took part in was labelled "From the Margins: Lesbian Subjects Matter". In 1993 an article written by Dr. Bryson and a co-author, described a course co-taught by them in 1991. Their article was titled "Queer Pedagogy: Praxis Makes Im/Perfect", published in the Canadian Journal of Education. In the article they pointed out that the heterosexual and white students in their class were informed they would need to "function and circulate differently in a lesbian-identified space". Their students were advised to "choose either to remain silent about their sexual identification or to present themselves as 'out lesbians'."

Their class, they pointed out was one where the "unsayable" could be uttered, where so-called deviant images could be represented ... within the oppressive confines of the always-already heterosexualized classrooms. Where heterosexuals were identified as the enemy and, in the words of the former student "those of us who liked men, who had intimate relations with men were mocked .... " Aside from declaring their sexual orientation, students were informed that all sex with men was inherently violet. The students were exposed to a "Butch/Femme in Paradise", short video containing graphic images, which Dr. Bryson explains as "an art film" where the activities were "entirely consensual".

Actually, degenerate is the first descriptive that comes to mind.

Entitlement Gone Awry

"Airline jobs were really reserved for men."
"When we [women, first hired as commercial airlines pilots in early 1970s] started, there were no maternity leaves, because there were no female pilots."
Captain Bonnie Tiburzi Caputo, 67, retired

"Having a child is a personal choice and asking the rest of us [unionized pilots] to fund your choice will be a difficult sell to the pilot group."
Message from local union leader to female pilots

"It's by far not my favourite place to make my child's next meal [airplane lavatory]. But it's a sacrifice I knew I would have to accept because I came back to work [after childbirth]."
"It's incredibly distracting and painful [delaying pumping breast milk more than three to four hours], like when you need to go to the bathroom and can't."
First Officer Brandy Beck, 41, Frontier Airlines pilot
First Officer Brandy Beck, Photo Theo Stroomer, The New York Times

"This is part of breaking down the cockpit door -- that's the glass ceiling here."
"How do you make a job work when it was designed without you in mind?"
Joanna L. Grossman, labour law and gender issues expert
Now there's a tempest in a cockpit. Women seem to feel entitled to any and all occupations, the equal of men in professional aptitude and performance, and perhaps that is true in most cases, yet possibly not all, given circumstances and specific situations where a woman's determination to follow her aspirations may impact deleteriously on the performance of co-workers, and more to the point, impact on the safety of other people.

Take, for example, Brandy Beck, mother of a newborn who had no wish to be assigned a job other than pilot while breastfeeding her child. Her concern was that she was a pilot and she wanted to continue doing her job. On the other hand, she was also a mother and she was obliged, since she opted to provide her child with her breast milk, to pump her breasts on a regular basis. To achieve that end, here is what happened.

When the plane she was co-piloting reached cruising altitude and was placed on autopilot, this would be her opportunity to inform the flight captain she needed to take a break. Operating policy has it that in the absence of a co-pilot the sole pilot remaining in the cockpit needs to wear an oxygen mask. A flight attendant is tasked to barricade the aisle outside the lavatory to give the lactating pilot time and privacy and ensure passengers do not attempt to intrude.

That done, a flight attendant is assigned to join the captain in the cockpit to satisfy the rule requiring that at minimum two people must be in a cockpit at all times. At which point Ms. Beck, co-pilot is free to remain in the lavatory pumping breast milk for a 20-minute session specific to that singular purpose. That singular purpose calls away a co-pilot from an important in-flight function to satisfy her personal needs and that of her child.

There is inconvenience to the captain in the cockpit, to the flight attendant who must accommodate the lactating pilot's privacy, and any passengers who might wish to make use of the lavatory may not for the 20-minute pumping session involved. And the larger issue is that during flight, when anything might conceivably occur, one of two pilots on board a plane is no longer in the cockpit where her professional duties lay.

That pilot is paid up to $200,000 for her professional expertise, and certainly not to satisfy her personal needs. The number of female pilots is vanishingly small; women account for roughly four percent of the 159,000 certified airline pilots in the United States, a stagnant number. While globally, about three percent of pilots are women, according to surveys.

Because female pilots are so few in number their needs related to maternity, parenting in the early years and related issues don't come up in collective bargaining agreements that unions negotiate. Little wonder that some members of the majority gender oppose proposals that would benefit female pilots of childbearing age, citing the prohibitive cost of doing so.

Ground assignments on a temporary basis present as an alternative for airlines pilots living handy to company headquarters, but not too many do. The issue of accommodating female pilots of childbearing age is a complex one. What is not complex is the complications that ensue in providing accommodations.

Equal entitlements sound very cozily accommodating, but in the process of that accommodation too much is disrupted and too many are unaccommodated. The expert on labour law and gender issues has answered her own question: How do you make a job work when it was designed without you in mind? You step aside from active duty in the air for a temporary period, and that's how the job works.

Transgender and Delayed Sexual Identification

"I was born at home instead of in a hospital. They didn't know what sex I was. I went to school and I used to wear my skirt."
"I never liked to dress as a girl. When they bought me girls' toys, I never bothered playing with them. All I wanted to do was play with the boys."
"When I changed I was happy with my life."
Johnny, 24, Salinas, Dominican Republic
Johnny, who was seemingly born as a girl but turned into a boy aged sevenJohnny, who was seemingly born as a girl but turned into a boy aged seven The Daily Telegraph

In North America there is a sex-freedom movement that insists it is counter-productive to assume that when babies are born with genitals identifying them as either girl or boy, these babies will grow emotionally into their roles as female and male. The proponents of leaving a child's sex identity gender neutral until he/she grows to maturity and asserts which of the sexes he/she prefers to be, feel that birth certificates should be absent gender identity.

They point out that there is much confusion among children in how they identify emotionally, and that societal streaming and expectation is responsible for creating even greater confusion. That children should be treated in fact as though they are asexual, androgynous, giving them the space they need to make their own determinations. They believe that this is appropriate for all children, not just those whose genitals have not fully developed one way or the other.

That for parents and society to presume to identify their children firmly as boy or girl is tantamount to child abuse.

In a decision -- after much discussion at the board level respecting the claims of transgendered oppression made inroads on the tender consciousness of the socially compassionate which one is forgiven in believing such a transformational decision could only happen in British Columbia -- the Vancouver School Board passed a policy in 2014 that the needs of the transgendered must be officially recognized.

Vancouver pronoun changeCBC News  Vancouver public school student Rowan Reimer spoke at the school board's hearing, explaining how she snuck into bathrooms in fear of other students catching her using the "wrong" one.

From that debate comes gender-neutral bathrooms, and the right of students who reject gender expression they feel does not match their biological sex to be addressed in the language of their choice, and to opt to play the sport that appeals to their emotional sex. Rather than misleading gender-binary descriptives such as "he or she", "him or her", and "his or hers", henceforth it will be "xe, xem and xyr" (pronounced "zee", "zem" and "zare".)

In the Dominican Republic, in a small isolate village, Salinas, there is a phenomenon of men who are born with all indications being that they are female. This is a result of a shared genetic deformity puzzling to science. Though they appear at birth to be girls, these boys are biologically male and the evidence of their true identity appears as they approach puberty when they develop male organs. They are called the "machihembras" ("first a woman then a man").

Johnny is one among the many affected children where in this village instances of little girls becoming boys are by no means rare events. Now 24, Johnny was named Felecita when he was born, and he was raised as a girl. A BBC documentary is on its way, titled Countdown to Life -- The Extraordinary Making Of You. The documentary, produced in two series, is meant to examine just what has occurred in Salinas.

There is a missing enzyme (5-α-reductase) preventing the production of a form of the male sex hormone, dihydro-testosterone, in the womb. In utero, all babies, male or female, have internal glands called gonads, and a small bump between their legs called a tubercle. Male babies carrying the Y chromosome at eight weeks begin to produce dihydro-testosterone which in turn transforms the tubercle into a penis.

Those babies in whom the enzyme is absent so the hormone surge required to turn the tubercle into a penis does not occur, and they appear to be female at birth. And then, at puberty, another large surge of testosterone occurs, when the male reproductive organs emerge, and it is then that the children's voices deepen. In other words, for these children, it takes twelve years for their sexual organs to appear, unlike others with normal enzyme production where the appearance is present at birth.

Johnny's transformation occurred at age seven. The condition is referred to often as the Guevedoces -- translating to "penis at 12", discovered by an endocrinologist, Dr. Julianne Imperato, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, in the 1970s. Roughly one in 90 children in Salinas is affected. Eventually, though these children appear to be sexually normal males subtle differences do follow them into adulthood; less facial hair and smaller prostate glands, as an example.

Redesigning Gender

"Each parent needs to permit S. a variety of ways of expressing himself and S. should be supported but not encouraged towards any gender preference."
"If the mother is forcing S. to be a stereotypical girl against his wishes, then this no doubt will cause him emotional harm. If the father is forcing S. to be a stereotypical boy against his wishes, then this no doubt will also cause him emotional harm."
"Neither parent shall unilaterally dress S. as a girl or force S. to take on certain gender roles against his wishes."
"In the event that S. expresses a desire to dress as a girl, then the parent in whose care S. is shall respect S.'s desire but shall contact the other parent and the society immediately to notify them of S.'s wishes and the parties shall agree as to how to proceed."
"In many respects, they are both loving and dedicated parents. However, each parent needs to permit S. a variety of ways of expressing himself and S. should be supported but not encouraged toward any gender preference."
"S. has the right to express himself the way he so chooses and it is hoped that each parent will accept, respect and support S. as he develops, in whatever way he develops."
Justice Sheilah O'Connell, Halton Provincial Court

"It needs to be seen in the context in which it occurred [parents' separation], which was a two-year, extremely high-conflict divorce. The disagreement was related to distrust between the parties. They agreed that it needs to be the child's choice — they just couldn't agree on what the child's choice was because of the context they were in."

This is a little boy being discussed, a kindergarten-age child whose name cannot be released to the public to protect his privacy. The little boy's parents were involved in a nasty custody struggle; threats were used and girls' clothing that the mother of the child prepared for her son to wear as a girl, were burned by the father. Both the father and the mother of the boy accused one another of forcing the boy to be the gender of their choice. In the father's case, it was felt that the child should be what he is.

The mother obviously felt differently, felt that she was sensitive to her child's innermost desires, and that was to be a girl, not the boy he was born as. The little boy referred to as "S." to protect his identity, was referred to as "she" by his mother. The mother of the child painted his nails as one would a little girl's. His father insisted his 4-year-old son be sent to school wearing boys' clothing as befitted his birth identity as a male child.

But the mother, who lives in Oakville, Ontario explained that it had come to her notice that her son was attracted to girls' clothing, to items such as "sparkly pink shoes", just as he was also interested in conventional girl-type activities, with no intervention on her part; he just gravitated naturally, and she was merely satisfying his inclinations. And the father who lives in Burlington, Ontario insisted that his child was a "normal boy" whom his mother forced to dress like a girl.

The little boy's father said that he had burned girls' clothing in a backyard bonfire at the request of his son. And he was concerned that his son was being bullied at school as a direct result of the confusion over his attire and his behaviour. This, despite descriptions of the boy as being well-adjusted and friendly and well-liked by his classmates, according to the school administration and Children's Aid Society workers assigned to the case.

The Halton Children's Aid Society based on reports from S. (while in his father's care), filed a protection order, responding to the little boy saying his mother hit him on the knee and forced him to be a girl when he had no wish to be a girl. Justice O'Connell came to the conclusion on the evidence presented to her that neither parent was more credible than the other, ruling the child be given equal time with each parent, and the parents must attend counselling and be supervised by the Children's Aid Society.

The parents had consulted with a general pediatrician and adolescent medicine physician at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Joey Bonifacio specializes in gender issues. His meeting with S. left him with the impression that the child was indeed interested in feminine clothing and activities. But he was as well interested in toys like Transformers and Captain America, traditionally marketed to boys, even while he liked the colours purple, pink and admired long hair.

Finding the boy intelligent and articulate, he expressed the opinion that "S. only expressed affective statements that were tied to gender expression such as, 'I want to be a girl. Girls have long hair'." Dr. Bonifacio is in charge of the Transgender Youth Clinic at Sick Kids; his report on his meeting with the child noted that gender expression and gender identity are not to be confused. That the child should be exposed to both feminine and masculine toys, activities and clothing and allowed to make his choice while still being referred to as a boy.

The child's father was initially belligerent over the recommendation, sending the doctor threatening emails stating "I'm going to get a degree in social media and make sure that you are my special project. Because you abuse children and make money off it..." The father lost no time in apologizing while revealing that he had himself struggled with gender association as a child: "so happy when my grandma dressed me in a dress and makeup".
